Pienza Tuscany
The town of Pope Pio II, Renaissance settlement rich in history
Just moments away from Chianciano Terme, along the historical Via Cassia, one reaches Pienza. The town is immersed in the countryside of the Val d'Orcia. Its history is tied to Enea Silvio Piccolomini who became Pope Po II in 1458.
The historic center has a wealth of splendid buildings dating back to the Renaissance period: Palazzo del Tesoriere, Palzzo Lolli, the Cathedral of the Assunta, Palazzo Piccolomini, Palazzo Borgia and Jouffroy, Palazzo Comunale, Palazzo Ammanati, and the Parish Church of Corsignano. Visitors should not fail to taste the delicious local Cacio Pecorino Cheese.
