Villa Moorings introduction

In 1924, when Villa Moorings was built, architectural design throughout Europe was dominated by the Art Nouveau style. This was the time when the Castelvecchi family, natives of Barga, a small Tuscan town between Lucca and Garfagnana, decided to return from Scotland (where they had worked for many years and made a considerable fortune selling Italian ice cream), and realize a stylish residence in their home town. The result was a sumptuous villa in Art Nouveau style, and an edifice which was to become one of the jewels in a town considered one of the "most beautiful small towns in Italy".

Today, what was once the Castelvecchi's much-admired family holiday home is known as Hotel Villa Moorings; the building's original spaces having been transformed in attractive public rooms and bedrooms. The antique furniture, like the carpets from Florence, glass chip mosaic floors, and Murano chandeliers, all pay homage to Italian "Liberty" style, as do the artworks by the local painter, Bruno Cordati. Spacious and filled with natural light, Hotel Villa Moorings bedrooms and suites are both wonderfully romantic and pleasingly functional. Wireless Internet connectivity, satellite television, and a well-stocked minibar are standard amenities in each of the hotel's 12 rooms. For those traveling with small children, there are a number of connecting rooms which easily transform in two bedroom family apartments.

Surrounding the Villa, there is a large garden complete with swimming pool and solarium. On the ground floor of the hotel there is a reading room, children's play area, and a bar. A restaurant service is available on request. Both Villa Moorings function room and garden provide idyllic settings for an intimate wedding reception or private party.
