Villa La Massa Candeli

Villa la Massa, surrounded by 22 acres of park, enjoys a superb location just a few minutes drive away from the center of historic Florence, overlooking the Arno river and Tuscan hillside.

The oldest part of the Villa la Massa estate, comprised of 2 distinct buildings, the Noble Villa and the Old Mill, dates back to the 16th century when the wealthy Landini family commissioned the construction of the two houses on the banks of the river Arno. It was not until 1788, when the property was purchased by the Rinuccini brothers, that the two buildings were united in a single villa, and given the name of "La Massa".

In 1804 important enlargement works were carried out resulting in the four towers on the corners of the villa and the little chapel in the gardens where, to this very day, Catholic Mass and wedding ceremonies are performed.
It was not until the mid 1900's that the property was transformed in luxury hotel. In 1998 the President and CEO of Villa d'Este S.p.a., Jean Marc Droulers acquired the villa and, under the supervision of Roberta Droulers, the property underwent a complete restoration which resulted in public rooms, guestrooms and bathrooms being refurbished according to the greatest Tuscan and Florentine traditions.

Villa la Massa's rooms and suites are all beautifully furnished with pieces of antique furniture, wrought iron, and woodwork by famous Florentine cabinet makers. Precious textiles in olive green, Siena yellow and deep crimson red have been used in the canopies, drapes and exquisite upholstery. The finest Carrara marble features in all the spacious bathrooms.

Guests dine in the elegant "Verrocchio" restaurant and terrace overlooking the river Arno and the Rufina hills. The finest Tuscan and Mediterranean cuisine is served, accompanied by the most prestigious regional and Italian wines. An appetizing children's menu is available for younger guests.

Leisure facilities at the hotel include a large open air swimming pool, fitness center and wellness facility. The "Golf Club Ugolino" is just 8kms away from Villa la Massa.
