Villa Cicolina introduction

Villa Cicolina enjoys an enviable position immersed in the countryside of Tuscany, close to the medieval hilltop town of Montepulciano. The building was altered on a number of occasions before being transformed in country residence for members of the local noble classes. Now a charming hotel, Villa Cicolina still contains a great number of its original architectural and decorative features including ornate frescoes, period paintings and antique furnishings.

The beautifully appointed bedrooms contain a delightful combination of authentic 16th century capitals, coffered ceilings, sweeping drapes and unique pieces of period furniture. From their rooms, guests enjoy views of the gardens which merge in to the extensive vineyards and olive groves which surround the property. A similarly beautiful panorama can be admired from Villa Cicolina's large outdoor swimming pool. A charming travertine fountain is one of the attractive features of the hotel's Italian garden, filled with the sweet scent of ornamental roses.

Situated as it is, in the heart of one of Tuscany's most important grape growing regions, it is hardly surprising that the Villa boasts a magnificent wine cellar. Guests should be certain to visit the ancient underground caverns linked by a series of tunnels which, it is believed, were of Etruscan origin, and are still filled with the old wine casks which once contained the region's liquid gold; the much prized Nobile di Montepulciano.
