Villa Campestri Vicchio di Mugello

Hotel Villa Campestri occupies an ancient building situated in the hills around Florence. First records of the villa date from the 13th century. At that time the nucleus of the villa was a small defensive fortified building protected by watchtowers, the remains of which can still be seen today.

In 1430 the fortified building was enlarged and transformed in manor house. Subsequent architectural modifications were made in the late 1800's which resulted in the villa's present renaissance style appearance. The façade of Villa Campestri complete with decorative frieze was an early 20th century addition as were the valuable decorative glass windows which adorn the windows of the chapel, a number of the guest rooms and what is now the hotel restaurant.

The noble Florentine Roti Michelozzi family owned the property and surrounding lands for almost 700 years until 1989 when they sold it to the present owner, Paolo Pasquali who initiated the extensive restoration project which led to the villa being transformed in stunning hotel. Key architectural and structural features have been maintained, as have original materials such as the terracotta floors, original plaster, caissoned wooden ceilings and old carved oak beams.

Interiors of the hotel are decorated with a combination of vintage and antique furniture and 19th century paintings and prints. The guest bedrooms are located in the villa and in the adjoining farmhouse and old dairy. All afford magnificent views over the surrounding parkland.

The dining room of the hotel restaurant, "L'Olivaia", with painted caissoned wooden ceilings, stone window frames and terracotta floors, offers a fascinating environment in which to enjoy the finest Tuscan cuisine and an excellent selection of local and Italian wines.

Hotel Villa Campestri is located in Vicchio di Mugello, at the center of a large park in Tuscany's Mugello area, a land known for its immense natural beauty and great historic significance. From Villa Campestri the cities of Florence, Prato, and Pistoia are all within easy reach whilst both Siena and Bologna are just over an hour's drive away.
Close to the hotel one finds the famous Ferrari race circuit, of certain interest to the aficionados of motorcars. Florence airport is situated at just 35kms from the hotel.
