Relais della Rovere Colle di Val d'Elsa

The Relais della Rovere is located in the heart of Tuscany, close to some of the most fascinating and beautiful places of the region; just a short drive away from Colle Val d'Elsa, San Gimignano and Siena, and within easy reach of Florence and the charming hill top towns of the Chianti area.

The earliest existing documentation regarding the Relais della Rovere dates back to the early 11th century when the property functioned as a prosperous abbey under the Bishop of Volterra. In the 1400's Cardinal Giuliano della Rovere elected the building, with its marvellous views over Colle Bassa and Colle Alta, as his sumptuous Tuscan residence.

In the late 1990's the complex was extensively restored and transformed in historical residence and superb 4 star hotel. The 30 guest bedrooms and suites of Relais della Rovere are located in the main villa and the adjoining convent. Each of the rooms is individually appointed, the most luxurious featuring rare antiques and large bathrooms with fabulous whirlpool tubs.

During the day guests may choose to explore the countryside and any of the historic towns in the vicinity or remain at the hotel, relaxing by the pool in the gardens. Evening meals are served at the Relais's "Enoteca il Cardinale" restaurant, where excellent Tuscan cuisine and a superb selection of regional wines can be enjoyed.

Relais della Rovere is situated half way between Siena and Florence, close to Colle Val d'Elsa, in "La Badia". An ideal base for those wishing to explore an area of Tuscany simply brimming with places of great historical and artistic importance; from the great Tuscan cities of Florence and Siena, to the hill top towns of Monteriggioni, San Gimignano, and Volterra. From here, the strikingly beautiful landscapes of the Crete Senesi and the Chianti region are within easy reach.
Those travelling by car should follow the A1 Motorway from Rome to Florence and exit at Val di Chiana. From here, follow the indications for Siena, then proceed towards Florence exiting at Colle Val D'Elsa.
