Montauto Chianciano Terme

An old farmhouse nestling in the countryside of the Val d'Orcia, Montauto enjoys magnificent views over the rolling Tuscan hillside and beyond, as far as the Amiata Mountain. The farmhouse was restored by Benedetta Origo who initially used it as her own family home. Today, the elegantly furnished property has been transformed in a delightful Tuscan retreat for as many as 10 guests.

In the comfortable rooms'', some of which with wonderful stone fireplaces, an impressive collection of books, beautiful pieces of local pottery, and numerous items of antique furniture''' can be found.

On the ground floor of the building, what were originally used as stables have been converted into a large kitchen/dining room and bedrooms which open out on to a charming courtyard filled with the sweet scent of rambling roses, lavender and rosemary.

Those wishing to dine outside may do so in Montauto's informal garden; on the sunny patio or in the shade beneath the wisteria-covered pergola. On the panoramic terrace situated in the gardens just beneath the house, there is a large swimming pool.

Montauto is located in the Val d'Orcia, a beautiful and unspoilt valley in Southern Tuscany between Pienza and Montepulciano, recently included among the World Heritage sites of UNESCO. Chianciano Terme, Montepulciano, Pienza, Chiusi, San Quirico d'Orcia and Siena (in Tuscany) and Perugia, Assisi, and Orvieto (in Umbria) are our closest towns.
