Chiarentana Chianciano Terme

In the middle ages Chiarentana, an impressive fortified structure built up around a large central courtyard, often provided shelter to pilgrims who would stop here on their way to Rome. Over the centuries, the building gradually lost its defensive purpose developing, rather, into a large farmstead where more than twenty families and their livestock lived right up until the mid 1950s.

Subject of an ambitious, and only recently completed, restoration project, rooms which once served as stables, storage rooms, and the living quarters for the farm workers, have been converted in 6 fabulous holiday apartments, complete with original terracotta floors and thick exposed wooden beams.

During their stay at Chiarentana, guests have the opportunity to savor the typical Tuscan cuisine served in the main dining room. The menu features excellent home cooking, much of which prepared with products grown in Chiarentana's kitchen garden. In the warm summer months meals can be taken at tables set beneath the large linden tree in the center of the courtyard.

The garden surrounding Chiarentana merges into the stunning natural landscape of the Val d'Orcia, characterised by rows of olive trees and open fields interspersed with patches of woodland. On site leisure facilities include a tennis court, swimming pool, and play area for small children.

Chiarentana is located in the Val d'Orcia, a beautiful unspoilt part of Tuscany between Montepulciano and Pienza, that has recently been included among the World Heritage sites of UNESCO. Closest villages to the Chiarentana farmhouse are Chianciano Terme, Montepulciano, Chiusi, San Quirico d'Orcia and Siena and the Umbrian towns of Perugia and Assisi.

Closest train station: Chiusi, 25 minutes. Closest highway: A1 - exit Chiusi/Chianciano Terme (13 km.). Rome airport: 2 hours, Florence airport: 1 and a half hour.
