Castello di Velona introduction
Castello di Velona will be closed for rennovation work until April 2010.
Castello di Velona enjoys a privileged position on a hilltop overlooking the Val d'Orcia and within easy reach of the beautiful Tuscan town of Montalcino. The Castello di Velona is a fortified edifice dating back to the 12th century. The medieval watch tower was a 13th century addition and a vital necessity in a period when battles were constantly raging between the neighbouring cities of Florence and Siena. The loggia, built in classic renaissance style, was added some centuries later, when the castle was transformed in private residential dwelling. In 1997 extensive restoration work began on the property resulting in today's charming hotel.
The hotel Castello di Velona has a total of 24 guestrooms of which 22 are suites. All rooms are luxuriously decorated with period furniture and sumptuous textiles and offer every modern comfort.
The 'Le Colonne' restaurant serves the finest Mediterranean and local Tuscan cuisine. In the warm summer months guests dine in the castle gardens, in the shade of the estate's olive and cypress trees.
The Castello di Velona is a much requested venue for small scale meetings and intimate social gatherings held in the well equipped meeting room, the small library and Salone dei Paesaggi. In the grounds and by the swimming pool, cocktails and wedding receptions are held. The castle is also available for exclusive rent.
