Castello di Calcione Description
Set in the glorious rolling countryside of Tuscany's Val di Chiana, amidst vineyards, olive groves and indigenous woodland, the Castello di Calcione is a magnificent historic estate, comprised of a medieval castle and a series of elegant country houses.
The origins of Castello Calcione can be traced back to the middle ages, the first documentary evidence of the castle dating back to the 10th century when the fortified building was identified as property of the Sant'Eugenio monastic order. In 1483 the destination of the castle changed and from religious institute it was transformed in the sumptuous private residence of the Lotteringhi della Stufa. Since that time the castle has remained the property of this noble family, awarded the title of Marquis by Ferdinando di Medici in 1632.
Holiday makers staying at the Castello Calcione sojourn in the various buildings situated within the grounds of the castle. Masterly transformed in fabulous guest accommodation, the houses, all of varying dimensions and sleeping capacities, are beautifully appointed with unique items of period furniture. The careful integration of modern technology has ensured that the original features of the buildings remain intact, whilst offering maximum comfort to today's visitors.
The perfect location where to enjoy the natural beauty of Tuscany, the vast Castello Calcione estate is blessed with acres of charming woods, wonderful meadows and two lakes. Three swimming pools and a tennis court are situated within the grounds. Horse riding and golf facilities are available nearby.
