Castelletto di Montebenichi introduction
The Castelletto di Montebenichi rises up on hillside to the far south east of the Chianti hills. The small Tuscan village of Montebenichi, which surrounds the ancient castle, is situated halfway between the cities of Arezzo and Siena.
The 12th century castle of Montebenichi now houses one of the Chianti region's most exclusive four star hotels with just 9 rooms and suites all furnished with a beautiful combination of modern and period furniture and adorned with priceless items from the owners private collection of artworks.
The public rooms are home to numerous works of art including immense period frescoes, archaeological finds, sculptures, bronzes and ceramics. In particular, the library contains a fascinating collection of drawings and paintings whilst, in the foyer, guests are able to observe a number of terracotta exhibits of Etruscan, Greek and Roman origin.
A generous buffet breakfast is served in the open gallery situated on the first floor of the building. The lounge bar offers refreshment throughout the day. Excellent traditional Tuscan cuisine can be enjoyed in the "L'Orciaia" restaurant, located in the village of Montebenichi. Those wishing to buy typically Tuscan items such as olive oil and wine can do so at the hotel shop.
The extensive gardens of the Castelletto di Montebenichi gently slope downwards from the castle before merging with the Tuscan hillside. In the gardens, one finds a breathtakingly panoramic swimming pool and small sauna and, in the hotel's glass summer house, a Jacuzzi and fitness room enable guests to enjoy moments dedicated to sport and relaxation.
