Antica Tenuta di Ricavo introduction

The Tenuta di Ricavo is situated in the Tuscan countryside, immersed in 445 acres of protected park, in Castellina in Chianti and halfway between Florence and Siena. The Tenuta di Ricavo was originally a medieval fortified village comprised of a principal villa, a cluster of smaller dwellings, a chapel, and various outbuildings once used for agricultural purposes.

In 1947 the estate was purchased by the Scotoni family who, soon after acquiring the property, set about the long process of restoring the whole complex and transforming it in a superb Tuscan countryside resort, complete with guest accommodation, restaurant, swimming pools and luxuriant gardens.

Tenuta di Ricavo offers accommodation in a number of bedrooms and apartments all characterised by the traditional Tuscan building materials of stone, terracotta and great timber beams. A selection of beautiful period pieces have been used to furnish the centuries-old apartments.

Guests are invited to enjoy a generous buffet breakfast served in the dining room or, during the warm summer months, in the attractive village square. Both traditional and innovative contemporary Tuscan cuisine features on the menus of the resort's restaurant, personally directed by the owner of the Tenuta di Ricavo. As one might well expect in the heart of Tuscany's Chianti region, the resort's wine cellar is well stocked with excellent vintages.

The gardens surrounding the medieval hamlet are filled with sweet smelling flowers and herbs. Strolling through the grounds, amidst olive groves, woods of holm oaks and cypress trees, guests may catch sight of the deer, hares, pheasants and wild birds which inhabit the area.
